The common eider (Somateria Mollissima) is a wild duck which lives mostly in the northernmost parts of the globe. They search for food in the low sea water on the entire Icelandic coast and in the spring they return to nest in a colony. Eider ducks will closely analyse the location of the brood, where the females will cover the nest with their most noble down, arranging it around the eggs to protect them from wind and cold temperatures.
After the chicks have hatched and the brood locations are abandoned, authorised local farmers climb up the buffs and manually harvest the down clusters from the nests.
Immediately after harvesting, feathers and down are dried at 110°C to disinfect them and make them easier to clean. They are then treated using traditional cleaning methods, without chemical additives, keeping the natural properties of the raw materials intact.
The optimal thermal isolation, the light weight and the adhesiveness, together with the properties of the feathers and down, make eiderdown the ideal product for filling duvets, pillows, jackets and other garments.
Molina eiderdown duvets encapsulate all the exceptional qualities which come from a healthy and uncontaminated environment and from entirely natural production processes, to create a product which has no equal.
