Is it necessary to kill animals to produce down and feathers?
Plucking occurs only after the slaughter of animals used for human consumption.
Molina, an accredited member of EDFA (European association of high-quality down product manufacturers) has always been at the forefront of the fight against animal mistreatment. The farms from which all raw materials used in our production sites come are controlled and certified in accordance with current international regulations.
Where do the feathers come from?
The largest global producer is China, but the highest quality feathers come from the central-northern regions of Europe. However, the origin of the raw material alone does not determine product quality. The selection of feathers, strict hygiene controls to which certified companies are subjected, and careful processing phases guarantee quality.
Why choose down or feather filling?
Health and comfort above all. Using a goose down and feather product for rest provides, in addition to an enveloping sensation, incomparable wellbeing! For our duvets and quilts we use natural, light, soft fillings, offering high thermoregulating capacity and durability over time.
How can I tell if it’s real down or natural feather filling rather than synthetic?
Simply by paying close attention, before purchase, to the labels applied to the item which must, by law, show all sensitive product data. Additionally, for natural goose down and feather fillings, ensure the product has certifications.
What’s the difference between feathers and down?
Down is the most precious part of goose and duck plumage, its structure consists of a tiny central core from which soft silky filaments branch out. The famous saying “Light as a feather” is absolutely true, considering that a cluster weighs approximately 2 to 3 mg. Feathers differ from down by having a central quill (stem), from which countless filaments branch. Due to its particular elasticity and resistance, it’s preferred for pillow fillings.
What’s the difference between a quilt and a duvet?
A quilt differs from a duvet by being made with a decorative covering fabric. The cover fabric of a duvet, however, can be changed according to taste and needs, offering different solutions.
How do I choose the right duvet?
Choosing the ideal duvet depends on two fundamental elements: room temperature and personal needs. The product’s thermal capacity **(Heat Points)** provides solutions to the question. In cold or difficult-to-heat environments, it’s better to opt for a very warm product solution, while in normal winter temperatures a 4-heat-point item (warm) may be fine. Products with 3 heat points (medium) or 1 heat point (light) can be used respectively in environments with comfortable temperatures or during intermediate seasons.
How do I wash a down or feather item?
Duvets and quilts can be safely washed at home in the washing machine, using detergents for delicate items, at a maximum temperature of 30 or 40°C. Products can be spin-dried and tumble-dried. Alternatively, washing can be entrusted to specialized laundries, taking into account the instructions on the label.
Does my duvet need maintenance?
Simple daily care will keep your items in shape over time. To allow evaporation of moisture absorbed during the night and maintain constant filling distribution, we recommend airing and shaking the product frequently. Do not use carpet beaters or vacuum cleaners which could damage the downproof fabrics.
What should I do at the end of the season?
It’s good practice to store the product at the end of the season, washed and thoroughly dried, in cotton bags or cases to protect it from dust while still allowing air passage. We advise against using plastic covers.
How long will my down blanket last?
A down and feather product can last for a long time. Care and attention will be fundamental elements in helping your product age well.
Do down and feathers cause allergies?
The NOMITE® label, applied to our products, certifies down and feathers as absolutely hypoallergenic products. Scientific researchers worldwide have confirmed that down and feathers, properly washed, sterilized and de-dusted, are not an ideal habitat and do not constitute food for dust mites. Furthermore, the fabrics generally used for manufacturing represent an impenetrable barrier for these parasites. For this reason **there are no contraindications to using down and feather products for subjects allergic to dust mites**.
I can see darker clusters in my duvet, do they compromise quality?
In nature, geese often have dark patches (gray or black) in their plumage, just as there are geese with completely gray plumage: the quality and properties of these feathers are the same as white feathers. The presence of these color variants along with white represents and certifies the absolute naturalness of the fillings used.
My duvet has emptied in some squares while others are fuller and stuffed, what’s happening?
This can happen in products (duvets or quilts) with box construction. The particular manufacturing technique includes, inside the squares, baffle walls that have small openings to allow the filling operation. Sometimes down can migrate from one square to another during normal use, due to repeated compression in some areas of the product. For this reason, we recommend those who prefer box-construction products to frequently shake (fluff) the duvet. A simple operation that would avoid this inconvenience. Our customer service provides, if necessary, product collection and return of the reconditioned item.
